Total Electric is headquartered on Culross Road in Bryanston, which means our teams are usually minutes away rather than hours. That matters here. Bryanston is a suburb of large stands and older houses, and a good number of the homes we work in still run on distribution boards installed in the 1970s and 80s rewireable fuses, no earthleakage protection on the older circuits, and additions bolted on by whoever was available at the time.

A lot of Bryanston’s housing stock went up between the 1960s and the 1980s, and plenty of it still has the original board. Rewireable fuses, no earth leakage protection on the older circuits, and thirty years of additions — a cottage here, a pool pump there, a borehole,an electric gate — hung off a board that was never designed for the load. These are the boards that fail a CoC inspection, and they’rethe reason we do more DB rewires in Bryanston than almost anywhere
else we work.
Bryanston properties are large, and the electrical infrastructure has to stretch. Borehole pumps, pool pumps, irrigation, electric gates, staff accommodation and perimeter lighting often sit a long way from the house, on cable that was undersized when it was laid or has been in the ground for decades. Voltage drop, nuisance tripping and corroded joints in wet boxes are routine. We find them, size the replacement properly, and protect the circuit correctly.
Many older Bryanston homes have a three-phase supply, and over the years the load has drifted badly out of balance — one phase carrying the geysers, the pool and the aircons while another does almost nothing. That shows up as flickering lights, appliances failing early and breakers tripping for no obvious reason. Rebalancing the phases is often a same-day job with an immediate difference.

Yes. We size the system to the circuits you actually need to keep running rather than selling you the biggest unit available, and we issue a Certificate of Compliance for the installation — which is a legal requirement for the alteration and something a surprising number of rushed installations skipped.
Switch off everything on the affected circuits, reset the earth leakage, then switch appliances back on one at a time — a failing geyser element, a pool pump or a wet outdoor plug is often the culprit. If it trips with everything off, the fault is in the wiring and needs to be traced. Don’t strap or bypass the earth leakage: it is the device that stops an electrical fault from killing someone.
